Fireworks over the harbor + every free thing to do this 4th of July weekend

Top events for July 3-5, 2026

America turns 250 on Saturday, and the centerpiece is free: fireworks over the Inner Harbor at 9:15pm. Beyond the big night there's a drone show over Middle Branch Park, Hamilton on a college lawn, fireworks Friday in Glen Burnie and Sunday in Kingsville, a bike parade for toddlers, plus a bird walk and a free concert for families who'd rather skip the crowds.

Top Pick

Baltimore's 4th of July Celebration at the Inner Harbor — Inner Harbor Waterfront Promenade Saturday, July 4, 9am-10pm (fireworks ~9:15pm) | All ages | FREE

The one event all five of our curators put at the top. A pet parade and beach volleyball fill the day, the Maryland Science Center is open, and the Baltimore Symphony plays at 8pm before Pyrotecnico's fireworks light the harbor around 9:15pm. Free, no ticket, thanks to PNC.

Fort McHenry & the History

Celebrate the Glorious Fourth! at Fort McHenry — Fort McHenry National Monument, Locust Point Saturday, July 4 | Best for walking kids 5+ | FREE this weekend

Every national park waives its entrance fee July 3-5, so the fort where the Star-Spangled Banner flew costs nothing to visit. On the Fourth it runs living history: costumed interpreters and ceremonies on the ramparts, overlooking the harbor that inspired the anthem.

Quick Weekend Wins

  2. Fire Museum of Maryland — Free Day in Lutherville Real fire trucks, horse-drawn fire-wagon rides, a flag-raising, and a visit from Ben Franklin. A free Friday outing for younger kids. Friday, July 3, 10am-3pm | All ages | FREE

Local Intel

  • Don't drive to the Inner Harbor on the Fourth. Take the Light Rail to the Convention Center or the Water Taxi. It's the biggest park weekend in years, and kids under 11 ride the Light Rail free.
  • Pick your fireworks night. Friday: Glen Burnie or the BSO at Oregon Ridge. Saturday: the Inner Harbor or the Cherry Hill drone show. Sunday: Kingsville. No need to fight the Saturday crowd.
  • Maryland waives fishing licenses on July 4. A free morning for Howard, Harford, and Carroll County families — grab a rod and a nearby creek.
